Important TMBT Ultra Trail and Hasuu Tasu Trail Run Updates for June/July/August 2014:
Race update from the race director for TMBT 2014 and Hasuu Tasuu Trail Run 2014, Monday, 11th August 2014 at 9.30am
Urgent Update for all competitors
-Updated course data for 25k, 50k and 100k has been uploaded to the official TMBT DROPBOX FOLDER (version 4). Please download the latest versions immediately.
-Race course descriptions for 25k, 50k and 100k have also been uploaded to the official TMBT DROPBOX FOLDER as a guide for competitors to help them along the race course.
Some important points to take note of:
TMBT 2014 UPDATE!
-The 55k has been altered to a 50k race course due to some areas that we felt were best avoided for safety reasons and have such cut off a number of sections from the race course. You don't however escape from the 3000 meters of elevation gain of climbing up a number of hills and mountain sides.
-For 100k runners, you will have at least 3 food stations along the race course serving rice, vegetable dishes, a meat dish and vegetable soup. We have requested the caterers not to use any MSG for the meals.
Food stations located at: WS4, WS5 and WS9 on the race course
-For 50k runners, you will have 1 food station along he race course serving rice, vegetable dishes, a meat dish and vegetable soup. We have requested the caterers not to use any MSG for the meals.
Food station located at: WS4 only on the race course
-All competitors will be issued with a timing chip wristband. Please ensure you have the wrist band on when you board your buses or leave home to go to the start line. Runners who turn up without the wrist band will not be allowed to compete in the race and will be unranked.
-All 100k runners must pass us their 'DROP BAG' during registration on Friday, 15th August 2014. We will have mini vans parked in the parking area of Pacific Sutera Harbour to assist with the transfer. Please note the collection of the drop bags begins at 11.00am-5.00pm only. The weight of each 'drop bag' should not be in excess of 6kg. All bags will be weighed before we accept them and the baggage tag you will be given specifically for the drop bag MUST be attached with your bag. We do not have spare luggage tag so if you lose your tag, you are in trouble.
-All TMBT runners are strongly urged to use long tights for the race as you will be passing through jungle sections on the course on the first half of the race course. If you wish to switch to shorts on the second half of the race course and can tolerate cooler temperatures at night, this may be possible but we are leaving it up to you on this.
-We once again would like to remind ALL 100K runners that the mininum lumens for the event is 80 but we encourage you to invest in better headlamps with greater range and lighting. There are some sections on the night section on the second half of the race course which have been damaged due to bad weather and land slides with massive drops down the side of the ridge. Not only are we advising runners to be aware of where they are walking on the course but also be aware there are these massive drops on the paths and runners need to stay focused on where they walk and to watch the direction they are walking on the race course especially when fatigued/tired/sleepy.
-There are a number of village halls on the race course for you to rest in for the second half of the race course but bear in mind it is your responsibility to meet the cut off times and get to the finish line before the set deadlines.
HASUU TASUU TRAIL RUN 2014 UPDATE!
-The 28k has been altered to a 23.5k race course (closer to 25k depending on which GPS device you use) due to some areas that we felt had the potential risk of flooding very quickly in the event of a severe storm in a particular gully. By removing this section, the race course has therefore reduced to the shorter distance but you still have a total elevation gain of about 1360 meters of climbing up hills and mountain sides so it does not detract from an other wise lovely race course with a different view of Mount Kinabalu from the Bundu Tuhan valley.
-Hasuu Tasuu Trail Runnners may drop the bowl/cup/spoon requirement from their mandatory kit list effective immediately.
-For Hasuu Tasuu Trail Runners, you're new STARTING location is the junction leading down to Bundu Tuhan, along the Ranau-Tamparuli highway. The race start time is 7.30am and all runners must be at the start line no later than 7.00am. You will be issued with timing chip wristbands along with your race bibs during registration. You MUST have your timing chips scanned upon arrival at the START line by our 2 marshalls wearing the yellow safety bib. If you do NOT come to the start line with your timing chip wrist band, you won't be able to start the race or finish the race officially.
Please pass us 1 bag for the finish line weighing not more than 6kg at the START line. We will have 2 mini vans to assist with the transfer of your finish line bags to be sent to the finish line. We will weigh all bags passed to us and will not accept bags weighing more than 6kg at the START line.
Transportation options for competitors who need assistance for HTTR 2014:
A) For competitors who are DRIVING to the Start line from KK, please park your cars at KOKTAS parking area opposite the entrance to Kinabalu Park HQ. You should walk to the start line (less than 1km) and use it as a "warm up" ahead of the start.
We will assist to send you back to the KOKTAS parking area after the race. You may register your names at the registration desk for THIS transfer on the 15th August 2014. Please note, the vans will depart and will not wait for late arrivals.
B) For competitors who DID NOT drive to Kundasang but need transport to the start line, we will have shuttle vans parked in front of the roundabout facing the main highway at 6.30am. Please come to the departure point at least 10-15 minutes before hand. If you have a travel bag or finish bag, bring the bag with you and the vans will drop your finish bags off first at the finish line at Mount Kinabalu Heritage Resort & Spa before departing for the START LINE.
You may register your names at the registration desk for THIS transfer on the 15th August 2014. Please note, the vans will depart and will not wait for late arrivals.
We regret we cannot do special drop off's at resorts and other locations due to the number of competitors involved in the race this year so please plan ahead appropriately. Pending some final adjustments to the race course due to a number of land slides and course modifications this next day or two, the official race course maps and course profiles will be available for downloading this Thursday,31st July 2014 at 9.00pm from the official TMBT dropbox folder and will be available in high resolution for you to print in A3 or A4 formats according to your needs on the race course.
Pavitar Singh, a two time TMBT race course finisher will also be publishing a PDF guide to help new ultra runners to plan ahead and to prepare for the race with a step by step guide on what to do once the race course map is available for downloading and what you should be doing in preparation for the race over the next week or so. Do watch out for this PDF file which will be available for downloading from our official DROPBOX folder for TMBT 2014.
FAQ Section of the website will be updated with new pre-race information effective this Thursday with more details and information relating to both races and all competitors
Good luck as well with your final preparations ahead of the 2014 TMBT Ultra Trail Marathon and Hasuu Tasu Trail Run.
URGENT UPDATE FOR HASUU TASU TRAIL RUN 2014
Please note the organizing team have managed to re-organize the race course and a new start point for the HTTR 2014 that will have the least impact on runners needing to get to the start line and from the finish line back to their vehicles/hotels nearby and also back to Kota Kinabalu. Logistics considerations have also been taken into account as well as the distance and ease for runners who are staying the night in Kundasang ahead of the race whilst making our decision.
We also are taking the current weather patterns into consideration for the Month of August when making a final decision.
Update from the race director:
"The official start line and finish line for the Hasuu Tasuu 2014 Trail Run has been moved back to the original location of Kundasang but with a new start line at Mount Kinabalu Heritage Resort & Spa (formerly Perkasa Hotel) and with a start time of 7.30am. No cars will be allowed up to the hotel so runners are advised to park their vehicles along the road leading up to the hotel on ONE SIDE of the road only so as not to block 40 seater buses and other vehicles passing through. Please do NOT park on BOTH SIDES of the road as you are likely to cause a traffic jam and blockage as the road leading up to the hotel from Kundasang township is small and narrow. RELA members from the Kundasang area will be on hand to help control traffic and parking.
A course change was originally neccessary due to the building of a golf driving range center at the original start venue. Our secondary plans to start the race in Lobong-Lobong Village in the Kota Belud valley were too ambitous and given the amount of logistics that would involved, we have opted go back to the original venue and look at possibilities of starting and finishing with minimal impact on the route and runners who will be still running (or in some cases, walking) the course who are in the 100k category of the TMBT. We have, thankfully, been able to work out a race course with minimal disturbance to the 100k runners who will still be on the TMBT 2014 race course when you do start your race. This will be welcome news to many of you competing in the HTTR so you get to not only sleep in a bit longer but have a much simpler task of getting to the start line.
For those of you boarding the shuttle buses from Sutera Harbour and Mega D'Aru in Tanjung Aru, there is no change to your itinerary as you board your buses at 4.30am and get to Kundasang well ahead of the start time.

MBT 2013 E-CERTS are now available for downloading. Kindly click on the dropbox link below. All certs have been assigned to relevant folders according to your category and bib number. E-Certs are only allocated for runners who completed the entire race course.
The forced diversion between CP1/CP2 for 100k and 50k runners has been taken into account and no runners have been penalized or disqualified for not being able to get to CP2 or penalized for not making the cut off time if they were held back at CP2 due to the flooded river for safety reasons. The cut off time was extended for the 55k and 100k by 2 hours from the original 15 hours to 17 hours and 30 hours to 32 hours in order to qualify for North Face Ultra Du Mont Blanc points.
