The Race
The Most Beautiful Thing (TMBT) Ultra trail marathon is a qualifying race for the North Face Ultra Trail Mount Blanc in Chamonix for 2014.
Competitors will begin on the North-West side of Mount Kinabalu and compete over the Crocker Range mountains of Sabah which includes village trails, open gravel roads, very short tar sealed sections and crossing over hanging bridges on the race course to finish on the South eastern side of Mount Kinabalu in the foothills overlooking South East Asia's highest mountain at Mount Kinabalu Heritage Resort & Spa in Kundasang.
There may be 1-2 sections which involve river crossings at very reasonable water levels which will be controlled by SAC officials. Competitors may elect to race in the 25km, 50km or 100km categories.
3 Qualifying points will be awarded to successful finishers of the 100k within the stipulated cut off time of 30 hours for North Face Ultra Trail Du Mount Blanc 2014.
This is a SINGLE STAGED EVENT. This is a MARKED RACE COURSE.
Competitors will be competing solo over difficult terrain and under difficult conditions with extreme heat and humidity a strong possibility over the race course. Also expect the possibility of heavy rains and low temperatures and strong winds at altitude above 500-1000 meters and temperatures between 14-24 degree's celcius at night. Competitors will be independent and on their own without any race support crews except for check points spread every 8-15 kilometers apart which will have drinking water and also race doctors or paramedics for competitors should they need assistance.
*Cut off times for 100K Category:
- 25km check point cut off time - 7 hours 30 minutes (competitors MUST depart before the cut off time from 27km CP)
- 50km check point cut off time - 15 hours (competitors MUST depart before the cut off time from 50km CP)
- 100km Finish point cut off time - 30 hours or less
*Note: cut off times may be amended (i.e. shortened) so it is important runners study the maps and also prepare themselves adequately to be able to meet these cut off times. The times listed above have been the cut off times we have adhered to in 2012 and are more or less the times we plan on using for 2013.
The 100k event is catered for seasoned marathon and ultra marathon runners who are comfortable being independent on the race course and are physically fit to compete under difficult circumstances and over difficult terrain and should have a medical clearance from their doctor. We strongly recommend competitors also undergo an ECG check to ensure they are physically capable of being able to compete in any of the categories available.
Competitors register at their own risk and understand this is an extreme event and understand medical response to an emergency MAY BE slow or delayed due to terrain, distances or weather conditions. Competitors are expected to use common sense when competing on the race course and not to entirely depend on course markings 100% of the time.
Competitors understand this is not a guided race course for novice runners.

10:00am-6:00pm Registration at Keembong Room, lobby level, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu in downtown Kota Kinabalu. Please note there is no pre-race briefing for TMBT 2013. All information will be shared on our website pre-race and via our facebook group page (Borneo TMBT Ultra Trail Marathon).

Location of departure point/drop off point for shuttle buses: refer to FAQ section of the website
4:30am Board shuttle buses and pass your finish bags to the logistics truck at the location. For all runners, maximum weight of bags should be no more than 15kg, 1 bag per person for 25k/50k. For 100k, you are may pass us your travel bag (not more than 15kg) for us to transport to the finish line for you. If you are returning to Kota Kinabalu after the event, it may be sensible to leave your luggage at your hotel and bring a lighter back pack to pass us to transport to the finish line.
All seats on the buses must be pre-paid during official registration via the TMBT 2013 website. We cannot accept last minute people turning up nor can we accept payments on the day. All buses and seats will be allocated before the event and all runners will be allocated a seat according to their bus numbers.
5:00am Buses depart immediately for Start Location. Journey time 1 hour 25 minutes. Buses do not wait for late arrivals and it will be your responsibility to make it to the start on time or be disqualified from competing.
7.30am Official Start Time.
12:00pm-10:00pm Transfers of 25k and 50k competitors from finish point every 2 hours after 12.00pm onwards. If you are expecting to finish your category in a decent time and are planning to fly back that same evening, ensure it is a late flight and give allowances for departure times from Kundasang. Be in mind, there will be a wait and the journey time from the finish point to Kota Kinabalu can be anywhere from 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes.

12:00pm Buffet lunch for 100k competitors at Mount Kinabalu Heritage Resort & Spa. This is a closed event for 100k competitors only.
1:30pm Prize giving and awarding of finisher medals ceremony begins for 100k ultra runners
3:00pm Bus departs for Kota Kinabalu for those who have pre-paid for the bus transfer to downtown Kota Kinabalu.
There are no other buses beyond this departure time for the day.

9:00am Alternative shuttle bus departs for runners who have pre-paid for seats to Kota Kinabalu from the Mount Kinabalu Heritage Resort & Spa.

Restrictions
Runners suffering the following medical conditions ARE NOT ALLOWED to participate in this event: 1) Congenital or rheumatic heart conditions 2) Hypertension 3) Myocarditis and other heart conditions 4) Coronary heart disease, coronary arterial disease 5) Serious arrhythmia 6) Diabetes 7) Any other disease which can be aggravated by running
Runners also hereby agree to abide by the official race mandatory kit requirements and understand failure to adhere to the mandatory kit list will result in your disqualification from either STARTING the event or being disqualified and stopped from proceeding at any point in time during the event. You are responsible for your own success or failure in this event.

Entry fee for 100K Ultra Trail Runners includes:
Race Pack inclusive of their race bib, support on the race course, access to drinking water at check points, finisher's medal and Finisher's Tee for those who complete the race within a reasonable time frame or within the cut off time as set by the race directors. Organizers will transport 1 finish bag (backpack size) per runner to the 50km check point (halfway point) for runners and then send the backpack to the finish line for runners.
No accomodation is provided before or after the event by the organizers for this category. No event tee or transportation is included in the race entry fee.
100K runners are invited to attend the prize giving lunch at the Mount Kinabalu Heritage Resort & Spa upon finishing on the 15th September 2013 between 12:00pm-2.30pm. This is a closed post-race event exclusively for TMBT 2013 100K runners.

You may opt to pay online via our "Payment Cart" which is via PAYPAL (note: in USD) OR via an interbank transfer/bank payment at a ATM/Cash deposit machine within 3 days. Please note PAYPAL rates are slightly higher than paying via local bank transfers due to the fixed exchange rate on the website.

We will check all passports and identity cards during registration. The organizers have a NO-TRANSFER of race bibs policy so any violations will mean an automatic disqualification.

Transfers, Cancellation & Refunds
The organizers do not issue refunds, nor have a policy of carrying over race slots to future races nor allow for race bib transfers to other runners. Please note if a runner is caught using someone else's bib, they both risk being disqualified and banned from future races. The organizers have a zero tolerence policy towards cheating or abusing the use of a race bib via third parties. Competitors caught using re-sold race bibs forfeit their right to options and transfers and will need to arrange their own transportation back to Kota Kinabalu from any location they are stopped at, be it on the race course or at the finish line or in the middle of the race course.

Official TMBT 2013 medals will be awarded to finisher's, winners, runner's up and third place finishers of the 50k and 100k categories who complete the entire race course, have passed through all the designated check points and have not only abided by the race rules and regulations and competed within the spirit of the race but finish within the neccessary cut off times.
3 Qualfying points will be awarded to successful finishers of the 100k within the stipulated cut off time of 30 hours for North Face Ultra Trail Mount Blanc 2014.
Electronic certs will be available for runners who apply for them post-race for all categories for a period of 30 days.
Finisher medals will be awarded to 25k, 50k and 100k runners who complete the race course within the stipulated time frames. For the 25k, we will be flexible given the difficult terrain and the number of novice runners on the race course.
Transport to the Starting Line of TMBT 2013 by Bus
The departure time is 5:00am on the 14-9-2013. The journey is 1 hour 30 minutes on average.
