About Sabah Adventure Challenge PDF Print E-mail
The Sabah Adventure Challenge was founded in 1998 by Kiwi Martin V.Rijswk, Australian Taz Lawrie and Dane Claus Pedersen to encourage the growth and development of adventure racing in Malaysia. The race was run on a yearly basis each easter holiday weekend and grew not only through word of mouth in the early day's of the internet out in Asia but by reputation. A down to basics event, teams were warned not to expect luxury on their travels, nor gourmet style meals but to expect the sort of guerilla style races most adventure racing competitors were used to amongst friends on a traditional weekend in the bush.

Needless to say, the SAC continues to inspire, attract and develop individuals and teams to bigger races and bigger ambitions. Amongst notable races which individuals and participants have gone on to compete in after using the SAC as a stepping stone of sorts are Eco-Challenge, Raid Gauloises, Southern Traverse and both half-iron man and full iron man races in Hawaii, Singapore, Australia and Malaysia.

The SAC remains a race where teams are encouraged to compete with the ultimate ambition of crossing the finish line each day and not for extremely high monetary sums unlike other events.
